I didn't smoke but I saw the results of my one friend. She smoked for 11 or more years. Smoke Away actually worked for her. What it does is it makes you sick to your stomach to smell it but if you try and actually smoke a cig. it will make you sick. If you are serious about quitting this is the stuff. Good Luck!

I haven't used zyban but my father-in law did, he's in the 50's a had really bad chest pains and the hospital though he had maybe took a heart attack, fortunately he was fine, he came of the tablets and has never had anything like that again! I myself tried laser therapy in may 2005 and stopped smoking for 12 months, i started again when i was under alot of stress, but I am going for the therapy again because after a few days i didn't even want a cigarette and the cravings weren't nearly as bad as what they were when i done it cold turkey! I think i paid £100 but it was well worth it because i was smoking 20 cigs a day (£35 a week) Good luck and i hope you manage to stop!

I joined a gym and went cold turkey. It was difficult but I had only smoked for about 4 years. I worked out a lot and after about two weeks the urges really died off. To be totally honest, I quit almost 7 years ago and there are still times when I want to smoke, especially if I am out drinking. I tried to focus on why I wanted to quit when the urges came and it seemed to work. I wish you all the best because it is so difficult to stop.

I quit when I got pregnant with my daughter 30 years ago - never picked it back up with the exception of the occassional drag if I was at a club and drinking - don't even do that any more tho - I quit cold turkey - my daughter also started smoking when she was in high school (ah peer pressure!) but has since quit because her 3 little ones fussed at her so much - she too just quit cold turkey - the trick is to not hang with folks who smoke and not drink alcohlic drinks (for whatever reason this was what would cause me to pick up a cigarette again) until you are sure you are strong enough to say No and mean it! It is hard - I've heard of folks using the patch and saying it worked for them but for me it was just making up my mind I didn't want to smell or taste like an ashtray! Good Luck and God Bless!

In 1979 I quit after smoking for 10 years anywhere from 5 cigarettes to two packs a day. I moved from New York to California in 1977. Cut down to about 5 a day kept cutting down. and by November 1979 i quit with no side effects no weight gaining, no shaking and never had the urge to have one since. This might be quite a long time but I never went back to it. Quitting cold turkey causes shaking weight gaining, and usually people go back to it.
I also know people who have done it with hypnosis. There also several different types of patches to use. Your doctor might even have a shot or medication.

I smoked since i was 13 yrs old i stopped about 4 years ago. I wore the patch for two weeks and also carried my cigarette case around with cut up straws in it and every time i wanted a cigarette i would pull out a straw and chew on it, that way my hands and mouth was doing something and i was busy and not even thinking about smoking.

I smoked for 17 years. I started with the patch for two weeks but I felt that it wasn't doing anything for me so I stopped using it. I have now been smoke free for 2 1/2 years. Remember, the urge is only temporary and it will pass.

Congratulations and good luck!

I tried for years to quit smoking. every time I tried real hard I smoked more. I was about to give up even trying. A friend in my church suggested that I sign a contract with God that I would quit. As soon as I signed my name, I never smoked another cigarette. I can't say there were never times that I didn't have the urge, but it wasn't often and it wasn't so intense. It was easy to get through them by just reminding myself of that contract.

There are certain medications that you can get from your doctor that can help with this...Zyban is one. But what I found that worked best for me was to change some of the habits I had that centered around my smoking and everytime I got the 'urge' for a smoke I got up and did something ......took a walk, did exersises, chewed gum, embroidery, various other things, things to keep me busy and my mind off the cigarettes, ....I smoked for 35 years, but I did it!!!......It's one of the hardest things to do and I wish you all the luck in the world!!!!

You have to truly want to quit. Cold turkey, I am on day 3 of not smoking. My husband and I are doing it together. You need a support team behind you. Write down all the reasons you want to quit and look at that when you crave a cigarette. Know the cravings will go away with time. I invision myself free of smoking. No more smelly me! The things I am going to do with the money I save and the example I am setting for my children. I will not gain weight because I will replace smoking with exercise. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
