Under options, there should be something that says "Start Yahoo Messenger upon starting my computer" or something like that...Unclick the box, click apply.

Go to start lower left of computer screen, click it, select run, type msconfig in the box that pops up click the far right tab, (it should say startup). find the yahoo messanger, and uncheck it. next time you boot you will see a popup that says the system configuration utility has been changed, select do not show this message again, and click ok. (you can remove other programs from starting when you boot your pc here too).

Good answers above, but my thoughts are that if you’re asking this question, you probably have more spyware on your computer than you can shake a stick at. Spyware makes me angry! After you fix the messenger thing, search for "spyware" questions previously asked.
A good free spyware remover which has a groovy name is “Spybot search and destroy”, URL below. If you already have one installed, disregard and accept my apologies for my presumptions.

uncheck the little checkmark when it cmomes on again that says automatically come on. at least thats wat i do.
