Well, it's the same reason that some white people are darker than others, or why some asian people are darker than others, or why some black people are darker than others.

It has a lot to do with climate and the amount of interracial breeding that has taken place.

Also, if you're a Mexican, you almost certainly have some Spanish in you, unless you can trace your heritage back to the Aztecs

It is a simple answer really. the "dark-skinned" Mexicans are generally American Indians (Native Americans\Mexicans) and the "lighter skinned" are generally of Spanish descent. Spaniards ususally have "olive-colored" skin with dark hair and eyes similar to many Italians, though like Italy, Spain had Germanic and Celtic tribes settle there centuries ago and as a result some Spaniards\Italians have lighter hair and eyes.

Some lite skinnned mexicans are of european decent or ancestry while some darker skinned mexicans are from indian or meztizo (mixed) blood lines. Anyway they are still very proud of their heritage just as Irish, Italians ,and English are here in the USA.

Some Mexicans have a different color of skin because of their skin pigments. it all changes with the sun. that is how there is a difference between white people and African Americans

For the same reason some whites are dark haired with brown eyes and are dark, and some are blue eyed light skinned blonds. Same with blacks in various shades. Diversity, such a wonderful thing.

Why do some WASPS have curly hair and some straight? Just because you are a certain ethnicity doesn't mean that you are exactly like everyone else in that ethnicity. As for your background, you need to find someone in your family who knows the geneaology.

In all cultures there are some people that are lighter than others. It is like that with blacks, whites, asians, American Indians, etc... I am sure that it has to do with genetics. I don't know, however, in your case, if it means that you have Spanish heritage or not.

Your mix of ancestry affects your skin color.

European origin = lighter skin
Native Indian origin = browner skin
African origin = dark skin

Your skin color is lighter or darker depending on how much of each mixture you have.
