does it irritate you to be trying to have a nice dinner out when some clown at another tabel is shouting into his/her cell phone?I think they should be banned in some places.

I agree that they should be banned in many public places. More often then not you are in a restaurant in order to have a nice, peaceful meal and having one or more people around you chatting on their phone is not only disruptive but rude. If the call is important, people should be aware enough of their surroundings and the people in it to either step out or tell the person they are speaking to that now is not a good time and they will call back later. I've always wondered if those who are sitting and chatting realize that everyone can hear their conversation or if they are so self absorbed that it never occurs to them. I have a cell phone but never use it to talk while surrounded by strangers. Not because I have anything to hide but because I am aware that many find it intrusive. If they can ask you to turn off your phone in a theater, why can't they do so in a restaurant, especially for those who aren't courteous enough to do so on their own.

Having a cell phone in a resturant is the most disrespectful thing ever. I get so angry at those people that think they can just blab away while others are trying to enjoy a peaceful dinner.

I think it is okay to take your cell phone with you into a restaurant especially if you are waiting for an important call, but you should have respect for the other people around you and talk on the phone outside the building. That way you aren't disturbing anyone.

They should be turned off. Maybe not banned, but definitely turned off. If I owned a restaurant, I would not allow cell phone calls inside the restaurant. Can't people turn off the damned things and enjoy some face to face conversation anymore?

I don't think the government should regulate this, but if a restaurant requires it, I say ok.

The problem is that someone can be loud and obnoxious without a cell phone, so if that is the only reason you are banning them, it would make more sense to ban loud and obnoxious behavior.

I believe you should at least have to put them on vibrate. I can understand keeping them in this mode due to "us" having kids. If my husband and I were to go out for dinner if the sitter MUST call, we can see the ID on the phone and we leave the dining area to answer.

When his phone rang everyone heard that song from Tupac it goes "I smell ****" It was sooooo embarrising. I couldnt even eat!!! And why he has that as a ring tone, I HAVE NO IDEA!!! His ignorance is what seperated us :)

i imagine a range of of human beings do it as a fashion of showing to all how significant they're. yet, until eventually that's a transaction the position you quite favor the clientele interest (and that i'm assuming your problem is one in all those), it should not be a difficulty to attend on someone on a cellular telephone. i became a cashier, and that i did not have any problem promoting human beings milk, eggs, potato chips, etc. without their undivided interest.

Doesn't bother me, why do you care if some guy is ruining his dinner by talking on the phone? If he's yelling then ask the manager to ask him to stop. If all he's doing is talking on his phone, why do you care, are you going to stop talking in restaurants?

Absolutely. Honestly, in cases like that, unless it's an emergency, shut the thing off. And if you can't, then GET UP AND GO OUTSIDE!

It's worse in the movie theaters.
