Normally, it is a moderate crowd. Most schools are back in session and since the first few weeks are important, most families don't take vacations during that time.
However, this year Disney has the free dining for the end of August and September, which means it will be pretty crowded. Disney has another promotion going now for basically the same dates, and it is nearly impossible to find availability. I think it will be pretty packed at Disney.
As for Universal, there crowds usually don't change much from month to month. But since Disney is likely to be busier, that oculd mean more people will go to Universal.

If you can prevent it, do not visit Disney/Universal in August. It's very hot, people are cranky, and it is crowded as all get out!!! Universal does have a lot of water rides, but the lines are horrendous.
The best time to visit would be in the cool months, anytime from October through March. It's soo nice, not too many people and the weather cant be beat!

August can still be a bit crowded if you go durint the beginning to mid month because kids are still out of school. If you wait until the end or even early Septebmer, the crowds will thin out quite a bit!

Here is some good advice...it's always hot (plus really no breeze cause your in the middle of the state) and there is always people there...heck they stay when it rains. Pick a day in the middle of the week if you insist on going. Also you may want to reconsider those months all together because Florida is busy with Hurricane season in those months. If you don't believe me, google the 2004/2005 Hurricane seasons.....all the major hurricanes in 2004 went through Orlando at one point or another (Charley, Frances, Jeanee, and there was one more I believe). I would suggest maybe November, less hot and no hurricanes to deal with!

Bussiness will raise over 200% in the months of may-August. If you wait untill september it drops under 50%. September is the slowest tourist season of all. Have Fun

As long as most schools across the country are out - all amusement parks will be very busy - some filled to capacity. Add the heat and humidity of Florida and it will be very hot days waiting in very long lines.
