Oscar Wilde was way ahead of his time. He wrote with cynicism to entertain the masses by making fun of the social structure of Britain during his time.

He writes with cynicism because he looks the world that way. He's a genius who sees beyond the limits of the ordinary man. Maybe he was abnormal man, but it's because with the genius comes one more thing - abnormality in the eyes of the other people.

I think he probably was feeling pretty stifled in Victorian society. He was a true free spirit, and it got him into trouble.
