Pubs tend to have big signs on them or large writing on them so are easily used as land marks. Also we tend to say get off the bus at such and such a pub and you will be near the street your after.
I liked the fact we had a street in Leeds called Every street so you could claim you have been down Every street in Leeds sadly it has been knocked down now.

Because lots of pubs are at crossroads, so they're often the easiest landmark to identify when you're telling someone where to rurn right or left. But Brits (e.g. me) don't always use pubs, we also give directions by churches, shops, traffic lights, parks, whatever (like anyone else).

Probably as a rule, that apart from the church in most villages, the only other landmark easily reconisable is the local pub. It is also the social hub of any community, and therefore perhaps easy to remember

Oi,
nless of the Brits i am Scots and proud of it,
When you english lot go on holiday abroad the first thing you do is find an English pub and spend two weeks in it, YOU should`ve just stayed at home, and saved the rest of us (Scots, Welsh and Irish) THE EMBARRASSMENT

Look at your TV programs
Corrie (in a pub)
Eastenders(in a pub)
Emerdale (in a pub)

Because pub signs are far more easy to see than street signs, which are never in the same place on each street and are often missing altogether!

That's because there is a pub at every corner and in the golden days alcohol is what they celebrate with even today.
