some were the "LIVESTRONG" wristbands for Lance Armstrongs cancer research foundation. Others were for the solders over seas (like the yellow ribbons around trees).

For Roberto Clemente. #21 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. One of the greatest players to play MLB. Died too young in a plane crash carrying relief supplies to tornado victims. Roberto was being celebrated at the MLB All-Star game. As to why the players and umpires wore the yellow wristband. Honoring Clemente.

Some players and umpires wore yellow wristbands with the initials RCW for Roberto Clemente Walker. Even pitchers were allowed to wear them, on their glove hands.
