of course. that is what free speech is.

on the other hand, how would you stop it? could you keep the rain from falling? we're all entitled to an opinion; the sound of all of them is freedom, even if some are not the ones you share. if i didn't hear them, the silence would scare me more than the storm.

and at any rate, it's the chimps and apes being insulted ;)

Yes, we are, because our Constitution contains a section called the Bill of Rights. The first Amendment in that document states that:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Hence, we can say whatever we want about our president, because it falls under the definition of free speech. However, instead of calling the president a "chimp", it makes more sense to actually enumerate what he's doing wrong. Only then can we actually have a two-way dialogue about his actions and how we can fix them.

Yes, ain't it great. I wonder if you could call "president" Mugabe an ape. Even though you can call Bush an ape is it polite or nice. Probably not. But that is the free will and speech that the US allows. I pray it stays that way

Yes. To do so would be childish and unproductive, but Americans have the right to do so, even though there could be natural consequences of childish/unproductive behavior. In other words, the state allows such speech, but others may not (for example, a parent is free to punish a child for being rude or calling names).

The US people are not only allowed to insult their President, they are really encouraged to. When an American expresses their point of view, even if it is the exact opposite of their leader, they are just exercising their freedom of speech.

In the USA we are entitled and to some extent encouraged to express our opinions. That is part of what makes this country a great one.Why shouldnt we be allowed to speak our minds. Our president serves to govern our nation, not rule us as individuals.

We can pretty much say whatever we want, as long as it doesn't "offend" people. So, bashing GWB is okay, but bashing gays, blacks, asians, weirdos, etc. is not okay. It's pretty much an imaginary freedom, depending on if anyone has the guts to stand up to you.
