Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT has been cited as: America's First Family Theme Park. To view the history, go to http://www.lakecompounce.com/lake-compounce-park-history.php. Not only does it have traditional rides, such as the roller coaster, it also has a separate water park. There are even a picnic area for large groups and a beach at the lake. There are also multiple forms of entertainment. A fun place to go, although not as big as it's closest major competetor, Six Flags in Agawam, Massachusetts. My favorite things include the Saw Mill Plunge (the flume or the log ride), the many water slides, the Ferris Wheel, and the Sky Ride (You ride what looks like a ski lift high into the mountains. I find it relaxing, but this 30+ minute ride is not good for those afraid of heights.)

Six Flags there is one close to just about everyone go to their website and it will tell you where each one is located and what rides they have, Carowinds some say in North Carolina and some say South Carolina the park actually sits on the border and half the park is in North half the park is South, Busch Gardens in Williamsburg Va GREAT!, Disneyland and World, Seaworld, just look up amusement parks or theme parks on the net it will probably help you better.

Universal Studio Japan is not bad. It's not really thrilling, in terms of speed and height. But very entertaining. Personal favorites, the Spiderman and Jaws rides. Disneyland is a dreamland but nothing scary.
If you're looking for adrenaline rush and speed and height excitement, recommend Fuji-kyu Highlands (like No.1 in Japan, Longest rollercoaster in the world) and Nagashima Spaland (Wooden structure roller coaster called the White Typhoon, very nice ride).
Movie World at Gold Coast is a good mix of thrills and theme atmosphere.
