Would anyone know if the dmv offers test for non-english speaking people?

I'm trying to get help for a guy I know that won the "lotto" (if you know about that) and he is now has to have us drive him around to get the things he needs. I need to know so that we don't have to waste our gas on him.

Thanks

he claims to speak english..of course we have proved him wrong...at home he might have known more then everyone else...but here his english is less then useful.

He is a nice guy and my husband has helped him out (translating for him...with the bank and cell phone people)...but we didn't know if he could have a translator..or if they had a test for non-english speaking.

Thanks. Of course...I'm sure they will find out. My husband though this was a bad way to get info so I think they are down at teh DMV right now...HAHAHAHA

If he has Citizenship, some states offer interpretors to help. personally,I think he should learn English, get a job,and pay his own way. I commend you for your freindship and help you give, but don't just enable him, encourage him. You'll both find it more rewarding.

Call them and ask. I have a friend that works for the DMV and perhaps I could ask. However, it would seem to be yes as when we ALLOW an immigrant that does NOT speak the language yet, they are allowed to DRIVE as long as they know the rules of the road. Look at all the Japanese that driver all over our country and don't LIVE here.
