My friend bid on something and then changed her mind and didnt send payment. I wasn't sure if the seller got in trouble.

The insertion fees, listing fees, category fees are some of the fees for an item with a starting bid of $75.00. Around $10.11 on fees are lost, thanks to deadbeat bidders, if you're a seller file a Non-Paying Bidder with eBay to get your fees refunded. For bidders like your friend, they will get a Non-Paying Bidder alert and a negative feedback from the seller.

If a buyer doesn't pay, the seller has a couple of options:
1) leave bad feedback which shows on your friend's ebay profile as a "negative feedback" . This will be available to any seller/buyer whenever your friend wants to buy or sell something in the future - a seller may even refuse to sell something to your friend because of the bad feedback and delete his/her bid.
2) depending on high the bid is the seller could turn the matter over to ebay to harras your friend. The price of the item has to be fairly high though.

The seller will likely just put the item up for bid again and will notify ebay that it was not paid for by your friend. I don't think the seller will have to pay any commission to ebay if he/she notifies ebay.

If you bid on something and do not pay then your account might be suspended. You can unbid, if it is in 12 hours. Otherwise you just have to hope that someone overbid you. You should be serious when bidding. When you bid you are entering a contract. It cost the seller to post the item up there. If you don't pay then the seller has to repost there item which cost money. You can also talk with the seller to delete your bid. That's what i did. Hopes this help!

Buyers automatically enter into a legally binding contract to purchase the item from the seller if they win the online auction or use the Buy It Now feature. eBay's Unpaid Item policy requires buyers to pay the seller for the items that they commit to purchase.

Sellers can file an Unpaid Item dispute with eBay for each of their items that are purchased but not paid for. eBay will issue a strike on the account of the buyer who does not honor their obligation to pay (unless the buyer and seller mutually agree not to complete the transaction).

Note: If a buyer gets too many strikes in too short a time period, their account will be suspended indefinitely. In some cases, limits may be placed on the buyer’s account in advance of suspension.

Sellers with Unpaid Items are eligible for Final Value Fee credits. Also, if the item is relisted and sells the second time, eBay will refund the Insertion Fee for the relisting. Learn more about how the free relist policy works.

Note: Sellers who falsely report Unpaid Items may have all credits for the time period in question reversed, lose the right to use the Final Value Fee Credit system for a period of time and/or be subject to suspension.

eBay provides an online Unpaid Item process through which the buyer and seller can communicate with each other to resolve Unpaid Item disputes. The seller's eligibility for a Final Value Fee credit depends on the outcome of this process.

About Unpaid Item strikes and suspensions

Unpaid Item strikes are issued and tracked by eBay.

Unpaid Item strikes are separate from feedback, and do not affect a user's feedback score or member profile.

If a buyer is issued an Unpaid Item strike it will automatically be assigned to their account when the seller receives their Final Value Fee credit.

Buyers have the option of appealing an Unpaid Item strike if they believe it was undeserved.

The seller would not get in trouble and probably reported your friend for none payment...worse case would be that your friend would be banned from bidding on e-bay again if that happened more than once

The seller should not have any problems. Your friend should really not have backed out like that....rude...makes her look bad in feedback...and she did bid...it is a contract....

The seller does not get in trouble, but they can report the delinquent buyer and get them kicked off ebay.

the seller still has to pay the listing fee. under certain circumstances Ebay will refund that fee to the seller, but not often

You can file a non-paying bidder alert against the buyer and get refunded your listing price. Takes about 6-8 weeks.
