Yes, however you will not be able to do it through iTunes. iTunes is specifically designed so that you cannot use your iPod as a mobile hard drive.
However, your iPod is no different than an external hard drive. There are several 3rd party programs out there than can help effectively manage your iPod without the copyright constraints that are in effect in iTunes. Podzilla is one program that you should check out. However, there are winamp extensions that you can get to manage your songs, too. Regardless, you can use one of those programs to get the songs off your ipod and just transfer them into iTunes if you prefer that program instead.

You CAN transfer songs to your ipod from multiple computers.
Here's how
Make sure that under the EDIT --> IPOD preferences in iTunes that you select "Update music MANUALLY." That way, iTunes won't try and automatically match the "my music" folder with the contents of the ipod.
When you're connecting it to a NEW computer, iTunes will ask you something like "do you want to use the library on this new computer?" and you just need to say NO. If you say yes, it will overwrite the iPod. Once you have said NO, go into the preferences and do like I said in the step above.
If you want to copy songs FROM the iPod to the new computer, then you should get another 3rd party piece of software, like EPHPOD, ANAPOD EXPLORER, YAMIPOD, POD PLUS, etc.

Well, you can't update the iPod without losing the songs, but you can transfer the songs on your iPod to the other library with this software:

your question is a little confusing, but I don't think you can lose any songs on your ipod when converting from an old library to a new library without actually deleting a song out of one of your libraries if that makes sense....in other words, you must delete a song from a library before it will be removed from your ipod

I don't think so. When I moved out, I had to copy all the songs to a cd and put them on my new computer.
