When they do go too far, talk to them seriously about what you didnt like about their comments: when you talk to them don't hide your eyes (full eye-contact) and talk without smiling or suggesting that you are vulnerable (if your friend circle is full of boys, you will need to look this way, because boys pick mostly on vulnerable people..then again, girls have become more b*tchy nowadays)
If they still don't stop, try and make a similar comment to them (pretend you're joking too) and when they look hurt, tell them that's the same way you feel when they make comments about you (this may sound harsh, but it worked for me!)
If they STILL don't stop....look for new friends - these friends are not worth keeping

What kind of things do they pick on you about? You should tell them that they are going to far and out of respect for you they should back off.

They don't sound like they are really your friends. If they are your friends they will respect you.
