He looked kind of Pacific Islander to me. Most pirating began around Europe, the Middle East and islands like Indonesia because they would rob the merchant ships that were carrying goods back and forth, like silk, pottery, jewelry, precious stones and more. Many people from those areas are a darker skin tone because of the sun (making them tanner) and higher melanin tint in their skin to protect them from sunburn. Pirates were probably also pretty dirty because there's not normally bathtubs on board. Pirates of the Caribbean however takes place in the Caribbean (obviously) where people also normally have a darker skin complexion and can look almost black because of the African blood that got mixed into the gene pool through the slave trade. Pirates started coming overseas to plunder in the Caribbean in the late 1600s because of the huge sugar boom in the islands that was raking in money. They would plunder sugar ships as well as ships carrying gold from places like Mexico.

So I see how she could have possibly made that mistake, but I personally don't think he looks that black... just really tan... There weren't many black pirates because of the ever-growing racism of the time period. Even though pirates were "outside" traditional boundaries, racism didn't subside any.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Johnny Depp! he's gorgeous in some thing he does. And, compared to maximum particularly boy actors, he has performing expertise as well! he's on the cover of Newsweek this week and the photo of him on the interior is extremely probably between the perfect that I actual have ever considered of him. I propose that one and all Depp followers bypass get this replica of Newsweek once you could! draw close it above your beds! Dream of no longer some thing yet Johnny!

I like Johnny Depp, but really couldn't tell you his cultural background. He may be a mixture of nationalities - or not. Does it matter - I mean does what his ancestry is make him more or less of a great actor, or less hot?
