I don't mean someone who joins the military for the paycheck. I'm talking about soldiers for hire, professional operatives who make a contract with a government to perform specific military operations independant of the military chain of command. I think that if someone is good at it, (some people really are just naturals), and they follow the rules, they should not be looked upon as immoral or evil, like they seem to be.

My husband is one of those "naturals" you are asking about. It's just something inside him that is unexplainable. And although his job may be looked at as nothing more than a killer for hire, he still upholds all the military values that he was taught to live by during his time in the Army, and he still feels that he is serving his country. Many people do not accept it, but probably because they don't understand it. Like anything else in life, everyone will have their own opinion, and the only important one is your own!!

Only a handful of legitimate outfits do this and they stick to providing security or specific work in very dangerous countries.

For example, professional mercs commonly are hired by a local government to kill a group of drug producers who have moved into an area and have murdered and enslaved many of the local populace. This is probably the most common legitimate work that mercs get paid for.

Another thing they commonly do is protect people in places like Zimbabwe from being murdered by "war veterans" who are there to exterminate them. There are many groups active in Zimbabwe who will come over and wipe these chuckleheads out for a reasonable fee if you know they are coming within a reasonable period of time. Their existence is only quasi-legal.

If it wasn't for people who bravely soldered on, there'd be no Ipods, TVs or computers!

Be thankful someone loved the soldering iron and its glorious lead filled fumes enough to build this world you so obviously benefit from.
