I am thinking about doing a study here in Houston to have botox injections done to help my migraines. Its not the first time they have done the study, so i won't be the first guinea pig, but im still a little scared. Has anyone had it done? Any doctors or nurses out there with thoughts about it? I really would like some advice! Thanks a bunch!

Ok, Botox is not a chemical- it is actually a food bacteria that has been deluted..... there are no chemicals in it. I am looking for actual answers here not just random opinions!

It is safe and is now already done in some neurologist offices. It mostly works, but they have to do trial and error to see how to get it to work best for each patient. Mysteriously it sometimes seems to work perfectly and then sometimes it doesn't work at all in the same patient at different times. They inject botox into the muscle above the bridge of the nose, the muscles above the eyebrows, the muscles in the forehead, the muscles on the side of the head, and the muscles in the back of the neck. Whatever works for the patient. It wears off in 2-1/2 to 4 months. One theory why it works is that maybe certain facial muscles clamp down on nerves and cause them to spasm or something.

I was on a Botox study for a year, and although I looked great (lol), it didn't help the migraines. I have heard many success stories though, and I think it's worth it for you to try.
If you don't like needles, you won't last the trial, I had 20 injections in my forehead, 20 in the back of my head, and 20 in my shoulders every 2 months. They were small needles, but some of them still hurt!!
I don't know why everyone gets worked up about Botox. Be it Botox, Triptans, Narcotics, preventatives,or over the counter meds, you are still introducing a foreign chemical into your body!

Chemically I'd say. You might pop this question over to Illnesses and Diseases for an answer from the MDs. We at Alt Med don't do drugs - not even Botox. We treat migraines in a different way. For my headache girl it is a mito c o c k t a i l (supplements to encourage proper mitochondrial activity), for my husband it is a sinus issue treated with saline solution and GSE as well as a few choice supplements to address fungal issues. We've found that migraines have different impetus, and different treatments. They may have discovered that botox affects some of them when trying puff someone's face up. Strange way to treat in my opinion, but hey, migraines are evil so if it works.

I would never in a million years allow anyone to inject Botox into my body, there are so many alternative treatments that have proven effective, why allow a chemical like that to invade your body?

Sure... it works for some people. Hard to get insurance coverage for it.
Have you tried Imitrex?

Are you using any preventative drugs like beta blockers or Depakote or Topamax?
