Depends a bit on the time of year, but since you are asking for something in the Northeast, the water will be cold, compared to New Jersey or points south.
I'd recommend staying in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard Island in Mass. It is a charming little town with lots of B&Bs and a pretty little Habor. There are a number of beaches nearby that are reachable by bus or bike (South Beach in Katama) or take the ferry to Chappiquidic (sic) where there are a number of less populated beaches. The island is big enough that you can explore other parts as well, if you like.
You have to take the ferry to get there. check this address for details and reservations: www.steamshipauthority.com

There's some basic yet important questions that come to mind(I am Owner of a Travel Agency; as such I encounter these dilemnas regularly):
1-When do you want to celebrate your honeymoon?
2-Do you have a Travel budget?
Minor details for certain, but important because depending on when you want to go and the money you have socked away for this honeymoon will make a difference where you eventually go.
Since this is the Northeast you're referring to and this is a honeymoon, I highly suggest a romantic bed and breakfast(B&B). They're fairly reasonably priced and sometimes offer discount for newlyweds.
Also realize that when people recommend a place, it is based on their preferences not yours. and at the end of the day it is YOUR honeymoon, not theirs. Only YOU know what you want. Anyone can say "Go to Nantucket" or "Bar Harbor is wonderful". Having said that, if you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with your criteria(remember that only you know what you want), we can investigate which accomodations will satisfy your wants and needs, and are easy on the pocketbook.
