My wife purchased a beauty salon with no experience herself. We employ one full time trained nail technician and she is teaching my wife the basics. In addition she has been having one-to-one tuition by a professional who comes to the shop (£300 for five sessions). Her progress has been excellent and she is working on customers at a reduced rate.

there are some good, new apprentiship courses available these days, where you work in a salon and learn far quicker than you would in a college.
Some small salons would train you up personally though, you have to ask around. But big brand nail salon's are more strict, only hiring qualified, experienced nail technicians.
hope that helps x

You have to be trained in beauty school and graduate and take a state board test and pass before you can work in a salon or spa. I went to nail & skin school in the state of Washington when I lived there...and worked in a few different salons doing manicures and artificial nails. You have to learn about nail deseases and sanitation...be educated just like any other job.,,If you have anymore questions contact me.

In MI you need to attend a school for a set no. of hours and then take your state test. I did it, the money sucks, the most I made was 27,000. And I worked my butt off... Learn computers and become an admen, they make way more, and its a better job for the long term, you can meet professionals (including men), instead of listen to women whine all day long.

You have to get licensed or no one will hire you and if you don't learn the proper technique no one will come back after the first time.

I would think you would need to be trained to be able to serve the public.
