Get a Chilton's or similar manula for that car. Electric fans are simple. They are controlled by a thermo switch (maybe multiple switches). Jump power past the switch and if the fan works, then the switch is NFG

I second Frickas answer. A Chiltons is a very good friend. My father gave me one for my 89 T-Bird and I was able to fix many problems on my car myself.
