This is truly a tough question to answer. It is about the timing and meaning of the phrase when it was used. “That’s hot” in the context of present day use is used to describe a person or thing that is appealing. It appears from the self-appointed scribes of the media that Paris Hilton coined this time honored phrase. However, fact is stranger than fiction. Our history books indicate that Rory Emerald first used this vernacular in 1958, and Tori Spelling made it popular once again in 1994.

When Rory Emerald first used the phrase in 1958, he was in a dinghy, floating aimlessly, about 11.26 miles off the shoreline of an island in the Bikini Atoll, having been duped by a group of sailors into going fishing. Had Emerald known that a hydrogen bomb, a massive 52 megaton prototype was to be detonated, he may not have gone on this ill advised fishing trip. The sailors sent the young lad off, laughing mirthlessly as Emerald paddled out the catch some tuna.

When the massive explosion took place, intense heat engulfed the surrounding Pacific ocean, including the young Emerald. Emerald somehow survived the subsequent shock wave and radiation. As he paddled to the destroyer, Kansas, the Navy big wigs were shocked to see him in the heavily tainted waters, and rescued him. The first words out of Emerald’s mouth were “that’s hot”, which immediately relieved the unbearable tension. It became a catch phrase in the continental US for a few months after. A beat reporter for the Saturday Evening Post quoted Emerald, and he became a media darling for his bravery in the face of the massive nuclear weapon.

In 1994, Tori Spelling used the phrase after her $3.8 million dollar mansion burned to the ground and she was sifting through the charred remains and found her beloved Stanley, her prized dildo. For some reason Stanley had remained intact, though it was incredibly hot to the touch. After Spelling pleasured herself with the somewhat melted Stanley, she yelled out in ecstasy “That’s hot” mostly due to the residual melted plastic that remained in her love nest. Her boyfriend of the time, a reporter for the LA times, started using the phrase in his column, and it became popular again.

Actually, it was Rory Emerald. Paris Hilton had a weird obsession with Rory. She started dressing like him, talking like him. In fact, she even thought about getting a sex change. Rory, was always saying "That's Hot!", and Paris started saying it too. Tori Spelling and Paris were in a fight over Rory. Therefore, Tori started doing the same thing Paris was(dressing like him ,talking like him , etc.). Rory was ignoring all of the strange chaos. He then told them that it was cool that they were friends, but all of the weird stuff had to go. Paris decided to leave Rory alone and go ride a motorcycle with Kimberly Stewart. When she left, she took the famous phrase "That's Hot!", and Rory got no credit for it. Sad and heart wrenching, I know.
