My 5 year of Town and Country minivan has this awful musty, wet sock smell that comes out of the AC when you turn it on. Help, airfresheners just mask the odor, they dont kill it. Is there anything I can do about it and what has caused it? Thanks, Barb in Pittsburgh!

You can try pouring a solution of bleach and water down the air intake for the ventilation system (just below the windshield) and let it sit for 20 minutes, then flush.
To avoid this problem in the future, you should turn off your A/C before you reach your house (switching to the vent position), so that the air in the vents is at least just starting to blow warm. This will eliminate a lot of the water condensing off your coils and therefore the musty smell.

There is a product found in beauty supply stores-- it's lemon, orange or lime essence in aerosol form. I take it when I travel-- and the motel rooms that have that musty smell-- I spray the airconditioner intake-- It may only be covering the mustiness-- but it really works. I haven't found anything else that will work.
good luck

Your compressor is high quality. the first element i ought to examine is to make efficient that your drain tube isn't plugged. in case you leave the automobile sit with the A/C on, there must be a puddle of water below it, frequently around the passenger part floorboard. If no puddle, then your tube is plugged. and on the grounds that the others have suggested, the water accumulating will mold/mold inflicting a stink.

Take your Caravan to a well known auto a/c shop and they will be able to take apart where the smell is and clean it for you. I would say about $300. I have also noticed greater problems in auto's with smoking owners.
