Does it have to be 42"? The reason I ask is because I bought a 37" LCD last winter, and dollar for dollar, I got the best thing you can find in the world. I know because I did alot of research before making my decision. It is a Westinghouse. I'm not sure if they have a 42" model but if they do, you should jump all over it. My TV has the BEST picture of any of its LCD competitors. Thats because the screen is made by SHARP, and Sharp is the LEADING technology in the manufacturing of LCD screens. The price was surprisingly low because it didn't come with certain features that are expensive but unneccessary. For example, I don't have HDMI inputs, but I have two DVI, two components and a s-video input which is more than enough. Hope this helps.

Naturally I cannot find something when looking for it, and that is the most recent Consumer Reports on electronics. Latest issue I can find here is dated.....Nov. 04, but it ranks the Panasonic TH-42 as tops of high definition (HD) sets.

It gives a thumbs up to the Marantz PD4220V, Fujitsu P42VH30, and Philips 429F9936, enhanced definition (ED) sets, and these are lower in price.

I will try and find more recent information, unless you already bought one.

I recently bought one after doing a lot of research and I thought the Panasonic sets were the best value for the money.
