I just found out that I'm pregnant. And to tell my husband I went out and bought a really cute baby blanket and a pair of blue booties and a pair of pink booties. Then I put the blanket in the bottom of a box and the booties on top. I printed out a large question mark and placed it in between the booties and wrapped it. He was really surprised but totally excited! The way we told our parents is we bought a frame that said family on it. There were 3 spaces for pictures so we put a picture of us in one, a picture of my little boy in the other and in the 3rd put a picture of a tiny little baby in the third and put "Coming in February of 2007" underneath it... they were blown away!! It worked really well!

When I got pregnant I was so excited, and because I couldn't think of any other way to tell my folks, I simply blurted out, "Guess what, your gonna be a grandma!" At which point my mum said, oh well, that's nice... which is not exactly the response I would have liked, but what else does one say to get an exited reply with the announcement that number 11 is on the way!

I took the pregnancy test to my mother and handed it to her. Then I waited for the $hit to hit the fan. It didn't though. She cried and my dad got pissed a little but he got over it. I was 20. I think it takes 9 months for a baby to get here so that everyone around you can get used to the idea. My aunt sent her parents a card in the mail. she was a teen and still lived with them. It seemed easier for her that way cuz she had no control over how the info or when the info reached her parents once she droped that peice of mail into the mailbox. One of my teachers got a bouquet of flowers all decorated up with baby stuff delivered to his classroom from his wife surprising him that he was going to be a dad. I thought that was a really sweet way to break the news.

You can go home and say you are gonna play hangman with your parents... and then in the sentences write " Congratulations! You are going to be grandparents!" Let them fill in the blanks and see what happens.

Or you can go to a store, buy some baby colored yarn, some knitting needles and a book that teaches you how to make baby clothes (booties, hats and mittens) and then mail it to your mom and tell her you want a set of hand made clothes for the new arrival.

Or You can get a champagne bottle, remove the label and put on a personalized label saying " Bring out the bubbly we are having a baby" or " Celebrate, great grandparents you will make"

Or send a basket full of baby goodies (bottle, toys, bibs, rattles) to their house...and then once you find out the package arrived...call them and ask "hey did u guys accidentally get my package"

Or go get a Babies R' Us catalog and circle things in it...and say that "I am sure your grandchild would really appreciate these things in his/her new nursery"

Lastly, you can send them a CD with all the nursery rhymes on it, and tell them to start practicing...it's important that grandparents can sing the baby to sleep.

A cute way is to send them a card for any occasion that addresses them as grandparents. . . If they are already grandparents, a card containing a copy of the ultrasound picture is very good because at first they don't realize what they are looking at and even when they do, it takes them a minute to put it all together.

How old are you?
Do you have a special Aunt or Grandma that you talk to about this first?? Or older cousin?? After you share the news with them, have them there with you when you tell your parents. Expect mom and dad to be upset.. but they will come around soon after.
They may wish to smack the stuffing's out of the guy, but that's to be expected.
Maybe he could be there with you when you told them?

My husband and I went to walmart and got 4 of those 88cent bibs 2 that had a cute little saying about Grandma and 2 about Grandpa and got little gift baggies and gave them to our parents.

His dad says "What the h*ll do I need a bib for"

But then again, his dad's an idiot, so what do you expect? lol

My dad said "oh boy"

I bought them bibs that said "I Love Grandma/Grandpa.
But you could also buy them a Grandparents brag book with the ultra sound picture in it.
If you are having twins, a jar of baby food and a pack of doublemint gum...

Try it Molly Ringwald's way, from the "For Keeps" movie... sit down at a big family dinner (preferably Thanksgiving) and say, "I'm pregnant- can you pass the turnips?"

When they leave to go somewher go over to their house and write a big message in the driveway with sidewalk chalk and when they get home they'll see it..or send them a bouquette of pink and blue flowers with a message on the card.
