You cannot guarantee the sex of your baby-to-be. However, you *can* increase the chances of getting the gender you prefer. The only natural means of doing this with any scientific evidence behind it is the Shettles method (see sources section below). Since the method is only 75-90% effective, it should not be used unless you will be thrilled with a baby of either gender. It is possible, free, not very common, and fairly easy.
If you want to use medical assistance to conceive, you can maybe increase the likelihood of getting your choice of gender--but you will reduce the likelihood of getting pregnant at all. And there are *still* no guarantees.
However, there will be people suggesting you use the Chinese ovulation calendar, claiming it is 99% effective. First of all, you cannot use this as a method before you get pregnant; it depends on when you actually *do* conceive, not on anything you do to *try* to conceive. Second, it couldn't *possibly* be 99% effective; if it were, there wouldn't be any such thing as boy/girl twins.

I have actually done some research in this area. I chose this as a topic for seven different papers I had to write for English 102 in college. It is possible to do gender selection. There are two different ways that it can be done. The first is called the Micro-sort method; in which the semen is sorted and then artificially inseminated. The other way is done by invitro; this method is done by fertilizing several eggs and then planting the ones that are the sex you want. The Micro-sort method is approximately 80% accurate the other a little more accurate. In both cases you would need to go see a fertility doctor, and it is pretty expensive. There are some sites on-line though that have kits you can do at home, but personally I think it is a hoax. I will tell you right now though that many doctors will not use gender selection for a couples first child. After you have a child on your own, without gender selection, and you still want to gender select then they more than likely will not have a problem with it. Good Luck.

it isnt possible to guarantee the sex of the baby... but you can try to choose the gender. but before you do, you need to decide if you'll be happy with a child of either gender. however, if it is against your religious beliefs to do things like in-vitro fertilization, it isn't possible, because the processes are fairly similar. it is pretty expensive, depending on the doctor, it can go for even 100,000 dollars. it is not all too common yet, but it is becoming more and more mainstream.

We've "chosen" the gender of both of our children. When we decided to get pregnant we were told that because my most fertile time was in the middle of the month then the chinese gender chart would help us predict what we'd have. We used it for both children and have exactly what we were looking for. One boy and one girl. We are going to have one more and plan on using the chart again. Also just as some back up everyone in our lamaze class reviewed the chart in class and it was 100% correct on all genders for the 25 couples.

YES it is possible and YES it is expensive, but it's really not worth it. It takes the suprise out of the birth.

That is very selfish of you. You should be happy with whatever God gives you.
