I tell this to everyone I know. NEVER carry your Social Security card in your purse or wallet. Go to your local Social Security office and fill out the form to get a replacement card. They will give you a reciept to show you have a card coming, but the actual card won't come in the mail for at least two weeks.(Bring some I.D. to show who you are-because of Identity Theft)

Take 2 forms of ID to your social security office and tell them you lost your card. They will give you the number and have a new card sent to your home.

The other answers are excellent, but on a totally different note, if you lost your social security card someone else could be using it to steal your identity. You might want to watch your credit reports for a while and all that fun stuff.

Surely you have your number written down on some important document(s) within your possession. If not, I'm sure you can contact your local Social Security office and they can locate your number and provide you with a new card upon verification of your identity.

Have you tried their web site, I believe you can get a replacement card there. If you just need the number call the human resources dept. on your job.
