Bill Gates has stepped down from Microsoft's CEO to concentrate on his Charitable Foundation (Kudos to Him). He has also donated the bulk of his wealth to the charity and again, I applaud his philanthropy.

Warren Buffet decides, in the same month to give away the better part of his worth to the same foundation.

My question is this: Why are these incredibly wealthy people all of a sudden feeling compelled (at this time) to give so much of their fortunes to charity ?

What is it about TODAY that is making these incriebly wealthy people so charitable What do they know that we don't ?

That is an excellent question.

One theory....

When an individual has such an enormous amount of wealth and is so successful in their career and lives, at some point, they feel compelled to give back to the people in this world, who so obviously need financial assistance.

In addition to numerous wonderful causes, Mr. and Mrs. Gates have publicly expressed a desire and their decision to fund the redesign of the educational system in America. In my opinion, they couldn't be more on the money (no pun intended).

Mr. Buffet obviously respects and shares their beliefs and worthy causes and appears to have made the generous decision to join them in their efforts.

I think the public should be grateful and applaud them for their generosity.

Maybe they have realised that the world is slowly ending and that the less fortunate people in it need help

Poisonous gas emissions are ending the earth, Terrorist gang members are ending people, Fashion designers are endangering animal species and the percentage of malnutritioned people in the world is not lowering

If i had a money, i would certainly do something about any of these issues...and more so at THIS time

My belief is that these gentlemen have experienced reality and life as it pertains to money. "The more money, the more problems." You can be wealthy; yet, unhappy. I believe that something was missing from their lives, they noticed, and decided to do something about that emptiness/missing aspect. Now they will gain a wealth that money cannot give or take away, and that is CHARITY also known as LOVE.

Nobel, who we know of as that peace prize name, was once know as the merchant of death for the of his work and riches with explosives. He formed the peace prize to have his legend remembered not as a merchant of death.

In my opinion Gates is a ruthless business person, and wants to be known in future generations as a man who helped humanity, not as a greedy thief that bought Dr-DOS and got lucky!

Buffet is one of those men who have held on to their root beliefs. He just likes what he does, and is damn good at it! He isn't leaving that obscene amount of money to his kids and the future generations. Instead he sees an obligation to advance humankind. I really think this guy iis the exception to the rule!

This is not new: Carnegie gave his millions to establish libraries for the poor all over the world. Nobel, who discovered how to make 'safe' dynamite left his millions to the Nobel Prize Fund which rewards writers, researchers and Peace makers........

It's a common part of history. Do some research about Leland Stanford, for instance, or the Rockefellers.

Perhaps it is because they realize that they are probably going to kick the bucket soon and want to decrease their chances of going to hell since they are close
