There's no choice involved, unless you are bisexual. Those who claim it's a choice can never answer the question "When did YOU choose to be heterosexual?" and there's a good reason for that - they never had to choose, it came naturally. It's no different for homosexuals. Discard all of the religious nonsense surrounding this question and you are left with common sense. If you truly get to know a community of gay people there will be no doubt left. You don't find a disproportionate amount of people abused as children, etc. as compared to those who are heterosexual. They don't live any differently than their straight neighbors, aren't more deviant or any of that nonsense. It is what it is, whether those who are afraid to acknowledge it want to open their eyes or not, and what it is is completely natural to the person who is born with a gay sexual orientation. That homophobics find it unnatural is their problem, though they seek too often to foist their fears on the rest of society with lies and misconceptions about gays. Of COURSE it's unnatural to them if they are straight. The silliness of all of this is overwhelming to the logical mind sometimes.

This issue is debated constantly. Some say that there is a gene that makes people have homosexual tendencies and others say that is not possible. Since many people are sickened by the fact that they find they want a mate of thier same sex, it is likely that a gene causes it. If something is unwanted, it would not be a choice.

I'm not a hater. I don't think it could be genetic since everyone has one male and one female parent. That said, sexual feelings seem to be a standard component of being a creature with a happy place, but sexual behavior is always a choice. In other words, there's no escape from wanting what you want and liking what you like, but when it comes to what you do, you get to choose. Make sense?

More than likely there is a biological explanation, meaning there is something that happens to the brain during fetal development that makes the person who they are...but it is quite possible there is a 'nurture' aspect as well. I believe that the individual nature/nuture combination that all of us are exposed to during infancy and childhood creates our behavior and lifestyle in adulthood.
As far as choice, I don't know, I don't know why someone would choose to be gay just for the sake of being 'gay'

It makes no sense that nature would come up with something as silly as a "gay gene". It doesn't help with propagation of or the strengthening of the species so why would it have come up?
