Do you think the Smashing Pumpkins is more just Billy Corgan, or are the other 3 vital to there sound?

you know what i mean? because like, he writes all the songs himself & a lot of there best songs really revolve around his vocal & guitar sounds.

I've never noticed anything special about the other 3, so it would be great if you could point something out

James Iha, the guitarist has played with A Perfect Circle touring with them and featured on eMOVIVe; Iha also wrote a few songs with the Pumpkins including Take Me Down, Believe, and Mayonaise. Jimmy Chamberlin, the drummer was also in Zwan with Corrigan and has played with a lot of people including Tori Amos on her album Strange Little Girls. These two musicians were a vital part of the pumpkins (at least when Chamberlin wasn't stoned out of his mind). Chamberlin was also in a band with Skid Row's singer Sebastain Bach. But I don't think D'Arcy will be with the pumpkins, I believe it will be the one from Zwan.

this is actually a good question i suppose any singer could use synthesized music to go along with the lyrics i suppose only corgan really knows the answer to wether or not the other band members are vital to the band a good example is gwen staphani and no doubt

dude!! the other 3 help billy make the sound that is the smashing pumpkins!! sure, he totally rocks out loud and his talent is amazing but even the best of the best needs his band to back him up. smashing pumkins!! woo hoo!

I am not sure. I can barely hear anything over his strained whiny voice. God, I hate Smashing Pumpkins. I nominate them to be the worst most overrated band of all time.

I used to think the same way...but then if it was just him,why was nothing amazing released after they broke up???
boy,I miss that group...soundtrack to my teens...
