Horses & ponies usually end up at auction for a reason - they often cant be sold any other way or they are very young, just been backed for example, or they are very old but being sold as much younger to people who are inexperienced.
Having said all that which is nothing to do with your question - sorry - the only horse auction I know of is in Kent which is nowhere near Lancashire.

There are a few auctions near me, but that won't help you much, I'm in Surrey. Be very cautious about buying a horse at auction, make sure you take someone with you who is sensible and really knows there horse stuff, a lot of gypsy stock is sold that way, and it is not unusual to find old horses being passed off as youngsters, similarly finding foals that are separated from their Mum's too young. You'd be better off looking in the local free ad papers, and if necessary going to a dealer, than bidding on a totally unknown at a sale.
Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for

Sorry, I dont know where any are, but a few tips of advice, before you buy a horse at an auction.... keep in mind that generally, most of the horses are at an auction for a reason. Most people with quality horses will sale them themselves, not at an auction barn. We bought a beautiful paint once... and we knew to be careful, we have been doing this for years... but the paint ended up having a stifle problem or upward fixation of the patella... you couldnt tell at all... waste of money. Luckily, horses at auction are usually cheap... so we didnt lose too much money on him... but be prepared for what you will do if you get stuck with an unusable horse... Do you have the room to just keep it as a pasture ornament? Will you try to pawn it off on someone else?
