Well, generally you don't. But if it doesn't have the clear coat (you can tell because when it gets old it starts flaking off) and the paint in halfway decent, no big scratches, you can sometimes use rubbing compound sparingly to take off the dull finish. Then wash it well, dry it well and apply a good wax, preferably something with canaba wax in it to maintain the luster.

Lots of elbow grease... Get a dozen good raggs a 5 $ can of rubbing compound and put some butt into ever square inch.. then wash it by hand and then using good carnuba wax not the lazy fake stuff but real carnuba and wax every inch.... if you take the time to do this you will impress yourself with how good it turns out...

Take the car to a reputable detail shop and have it rubbed out and polished. This will take out dull areas and minor scratches on the cars finish. Should cost between $200-300 and will make a huge difference.

Waxing, resurfacing compounds to get the swirll marks out. Washing it etc... There is not much you can do unless you want to repaint it. You can get touchup paint for chips etc...

ill tel you what to do if you want your car to look like new.go to auto zone and pick up a bottle of color back its in a red bottle(i think) it gets rid of dead paint and also polishes it at the same time, but you better have a lot or rags cause you will have to have them.i know it works cause i used it on several cars, then if you want to you can go and wax it (if you want to)good luck.
