Your British License is valid in the USA.
Generally speaking, you need an international driver's license for countries that require visas to enter. The EU and US reciprocally accept each other's driving permits. Obviously, if you're staying for long enough to establish residency, you would have to apply for a license, but just for vacation, you're fine.
Please remember though, we drive on the wrong side of the road. Enjoy the US!

An international license is one that is issued by an organization like a car club and is valid only outside the country of origin and for a period of one year. The main purpose for an international national license is to have your license translated into several languages for the police of the country you are visiting. Since your license is written in English I would still suggest getting an international one since it is our law that you must have a valid (the US's definition) license and for your protection.

If you are just getting a hire car then the old paper licenses are valid. I go over to america every 3 months or so and dont have any problems, and thats using 4 different hire car companies.
we were pulled over by a cop once too in new york and he had no problems with my license at all.

You will have no problem driving in the USA on a British Drivers License.
I used to work with a motorhome rental agency and we always honored the British drivers license. The police will honor it too.
I hope you enjoy your visit to the USA!!!

An international license you used to be able to buy from AA shops - you walk in with your normal license and you get an additional bit of paper to carry around with you - that's the international bit. But I think times have changed. Get a photocard, and do it quick!

No, you'll need to get a state driving liscence of whatever state you go to, the signs and road accessories are different, not to mention you're driving on the other side of the road. You'll have to take the driver test again.

see you later because it remains interior dates etc you don't desire to renew it. you at the instantaneous are not obliged to regulate it for a clean image-card licence, it remains valid. If, although, you do deliver it off to DVLA for some reason (possibly for a replace of handle or something) it's going to get replaced with a clean one, they do no longer reissue paper ones.

you should be ok, take out comprehensive cover though as they will sue you for anything, it is worth taking out the cover if you get a free car on a fly-drive holiday
