Join activities and go to social gatherings that you like to do. If you like movies, ask people what they think about movies. Then see who likes the same kind of movies you do and chat a little. Soon you will find people who like to do the same things you like. If you are a guy (your avatar looks like one) then its really easy. Men's friends usually revolve around activities or sports they do together. I like card games. I have met alot of friends from playing card games, etc.

Wrong question. How can I make true friends. Answer: Believe in Jesus Christ and you will have brothers and sisters all over the world.
Jesus Christ loves you and I do to. The KJV of the Holy Bible in The Gospel according to John 3:16
says:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Please get a King James Version of the Holy Bible and start reading John 1:1 and read and pray that God through the Holy Spirit will reveal the TRUTH to you.

Is that what you really want? Or are you basing you definition of "happiness" on the presumption that popular people are indeed happy?
In my experience, "people who need people...are the UNLUCKIEST people in the world! I could not fathom disliking myself SO MUCH that the basis of my self esteem is contingent upon someone else's validations. Ever hear of an invention called the mirror?? You sholud try looking into one sometimes, I hear its the latest craze. Granted, we as human beings driven by emotional insecurity, have our weaknesses...but to live by those weakneses', or like you to actually ASPIRE to them, that is just SAD my freind. I suggest you do without people for awhile. Being "liked" is only a temporary remedy to what seems to be a deeper issue.
Focus on what you like about yourself, then build on that. Or...do what the market tells you to do and get an expensive makeover, one that sets you apart from the other dweebs. Soon they'll be like, 'Hey...he's really hot!'

Be yourself
People hate liars. If you fake it, the truth will be seen at some point then you will lose the ones you make.
You want them to truly like you for you anyway.

just be your own self. it didn't work for me, but it wouldn't hurt YOU to try. just kidding, but seriously, just be yourself. if at first you don't see results, then you just wait and eventually you'll find someone who completely understands you. but in the mean time, don't give a f#$% about what people think.
