This gets on my nerves so bad! People think that just cuz we love anime that we have no life and that we are nerds and its so not true.

I've been referred to as an "anime addict" and a "japanese-crazy woman" at school (well those who can't do anythinkg in life say that to me). I can't take it anymore! So what if we DO like anime? Would they kill us if we liked it?!?! Absolutely NOT!!!! We are not nerds, geeks, or smartmouths. People say they only like anime because of the hentai. And those people are sh**heads. (SO SORRY for the swearing!!! -_-)
Now, back to question. People judge others because they have nothing else to do in life but to sit down in the couch, eat chips, and watch reruns (I also answered this on another girl.) People judge others based on their appearance, or their own opinion. They do the same to us...well, shouldn't we do the same to them? ^_~
I hope I've given you some answer/s. And to all the i-hate-anime-but-i-love-hentai persons out there, WE DON'T CARE IF YOU MAKE FUN OF US. WE LOVE ANIME, WE ARE NOT NERDS, AND WE HAVE LIFE!!!!!!!!!! And you kind of people suck!!!! Hahaha.

i totally agree with you! They judge us for no reason and they all assume that anime is for kids but it isn't! They haven't even watched many anime! I personally love anime and manga! I just adore it! Why can't they realize that anime is like regular tv but animated? Some of my faves are...

I really believe those types are jealous because they don't understand anything more complicated than the club scene, or reality TV. Narrow mindedness is all it is. Plus, they don't have anything better to do. Remember, people fear what they don't understand, so some people lash out at things they fear. It's usually best to ignore them, however hard it is. I'm always guilty of not listening to my own advice though! ^___^ On the other hand, there's something to be said for standing up for something you believe in.

If someone's shallow enough to not try and know a person and just judge them for one thing in their life, they aren't worth worrying about. Smile, nod, and excuse yourself. As for the why, people have judged others for many reasons for many years, only effort can change that.

Because people can be jerks, to put it simply. They think it's either...
1. Kid's stuff
2. Porno
3. Not as good as American animation.
Those are the basic divisions I've noticed.
Anime fans usually get picked on because of their in-group jokes that they've usually created, being tagged to being similar to Star Wars/Star Trek fans (which the con goers are with cosplay), and not interested with what they are interested in. We tend to stick in groups and hang out with other anime fans (like jocks hang out with others in their group, or nerds hang out with others like them). However, I think it's more in line with the SW/ST fan stereotype now.

I know!!! It totally sucks. I'm worried if I start an anime club at my school, then the seniors will taunt and joke about it. And maybe even a couple boys in my class too.

I know! It's really rude to judge someone just for something they like. Just cause we like anime, it doesn't mean we don't have a life. My sister does it to me all the time. She always says "why do you watch that stuff?" I just ignore her.

I completely agree with you. Anime is a hobby like playing sports or reading books and no one should judge another by what he or she likes. It's our life and they have no right to criticize us.

There's this one guy who asked a question here that said "Why are people here such nerds" at least that's what it said that people here are nerds. Well that guy got it handed to him.So what if they judge us, we're just being who we are.
