At Kings Island in Mason, OH. I swear to you I have a fuzzy memory of my dad telling me about this (we live a few miles from the park) and reading about it in the paper but I can't find anything about it anymore!! I thought 16-18 people died riding the King Cobra. Or perhaps they were just injured? It's been bugging me for a while and I can't figure it out nor can I find it anywhere online.

I do know they shut down the King Cobra for a day around 1999 only as a precaution due to a fatality at another park somewhere (it was a similar coaster and they wanted to make sure it was safe before re-opening it)

Amanda B: To answer your question, yes, "Son of Beast" injured several riders on Sunday... wow. I've ridden it several times; it was going down a huge hill and stopped suddenly but continued with the ride after it stopped. Basically it gave everyone a horrible case of whiplash, bruises and one woman broke a bone. Ouch. It's a pretty rough ride when functioning normally so I can't imagine how much that must have hurt.

No, this is an urban legend. No one died on the King Cobra at King's Island.

Yeah they defunct that coaster in 2001....Prototype TOGO Stand-Up roller coaster. The ride was the America's first true stand-up coaster and was taken down in 2002 to make space for Delirium. Today, King Cobra sits in a field behind Flight of Fear and some parts are inside Flight of Fear's building. The ride is currently up for sale.

Maybe you dreamed it. Or maybe your dad was lying to you just to have fun.
