You have admit that the stork is kinda cute. (with, perhaps, the exception of the Marabout Stork which although homely has great stage presence, but it usually lacks a suitable stage
Seriously, the myth comes from old Dutch and Germanic fairy tales. These probably arose from the stork's habit of constructing nests on the roofs of houses in those countries. I am NOT making this up. I am quoting the Wikipedia which is usually right. (incidentally, researchers have found a slightly lower error rate in the Wikipedia than the Encyclopedia Brittanica.) (both good information references.)
Great question,
Thanks for the acquired information.

Actually, the stork story was made up by people who could use it as a way to avoid telling their children about the natural process of human reproduction. When their kids ask 'where do babies come from?' they use the stork line to cover the real truth up. As the kid gets older, though, he or she will become more inquisitive and the parent will have to explain the real process, or the kid will find out from some of his friends, often with incorrect and vulgar information. So it is best for the parents to explain to the child the truth when they are young because they WILL find out about it sooner or later.

No idea, it really shouldn't because it gives children false illusions about child birth.
