Maybe they'll close, maybe not. The park actually makes good money. That's not the problem. The problem is that Six Flags (the company that owns the park) is very deep in debt, and bleeding cash to make the payments. Also, Six Flags is trying to cultivate a more Disney-fied family image, and Magic Mountain, with all the wild roller coasters attracts rowdy teens. So, the place is for sale.
It could go to another theme park operator, in which case it would remain open, or it could go to a real estate developer, in which case it would shut down and be turned into houses. This could happen because the value of the land they're on may be higher than the value of the profits the park can make. I've also heard a story that it might be sold to an oil company, but that's not confirmed. If it goes to an oil company, it might or might not remain open (they could do slant drilling underneath without disturbing the rides if there's oil down there). Stay tuned.

THAT REALLY SUCKS!!! I make it up there to Magic Mountain at least twice a year. Over the years it seems as though the maintenance of the park had been lacking and it didn't feel like a family atmosphere anymore - more of a teen-age hang out or pick-up and make out spot. My husband and I aren't the only ones who have noticed that over the years. We used to actually go there about 4 or 5 times a year.

I've heard that too. I'm not surprised. The gangs really took over the park and it forced families to quit going there. It's their own fault for not running the trash out.
About 8 years ago I went there with my boyfriend. We were standing in line for a ride when a large group of cholos cut in front of us. When we told them to stand in line like the rest of us they pulled a knife on us. I have never gone back. Why pay all that money to go there only to get physically assaulted while the staff looks the other way. I say good riddance to the park.

I've only been to Magic Mountain twice and I can't say either trip was a great experience. The lines were way too long, the park layout is frustrating and the general atmosphere wasn't really fun. It felt like the employees were trapped there and they always looked at you like "please take us with you." It's not terribly surprising that it's closing.

Disneyland hasn't ever closed because they opened. they did not close even as Walt Disney died and they did not close on 9/11. I particularly doubt they are going to close as a results of swine flu, rather because it isn't in Orange County yet (from what i know)

I've never been there but I hear it is real ghetto. Who want's to go somewhere where you have to pay money to have a fun and enjoyable experience when all you have are rude little kids running around while there parents stand there doing nothing?
