Yes, it is rational as long as enough people buy into it. Apparently enough do, because they keep saying it. It is all politics. If it didn't work, they wouldn't do it.
I would prefer that Bush lived up to the campaign propaganda he spouted in 2000 about being a uniter, not a divider. We do not need politics in this country to be so divisive. Dissenting and cautionary views should be allowed to be heard without being labelled as unpatriotic. Rarely does any one person, party, side have all of the facts, all of the ideas, all of the solutions.
While I did not support the decision to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam, we have done it and the country is broken. It is our responsibility to try and put it together again (and hope that Iraq is not Humpty Dumpty).

Not rational, but it is political. At the moment in American Politics, up is down and right is going south. For example, Nixon and his guys found the author of "Swift Boat Veteran's for the Truth." to start a propaganda war against Kerry back in the anti-War days of the Vietnam War. Ironically, it was the same bunch that the Republicans under Rove found to capsize Kerry's Presidential bid in 2004.
When politicians like Karl Hove lead, the English Language is the first casualty. Good becomes bad and Bad become evil and evil becomes anyone who disagrees with the Bush and Rove. So, the ones who are asking for facts, are in fact twisting the English Language to into an unusable form of communication. So, we resort to picture Campaigns, and charge an arm and two legs for the service.
So, if I shake my head up and down and around, I am actually asking you for a glass of water? You got it?

What's irrational about it. Much of the anti war BS being yelled today is only giving the terrorist inspiration that they stand a chance. If they can get enough sheep to think they are the victims then they will win. This justifies their mission to carry on with their senseless murders of innocent. Why can't people see what they are all about. If you are not one of THEM they will KILL you. No hugging or understanding or love or peace is going to stop them. We are not backing out of this war against terrorism. If we want to help the troops , the innocent citizens of Iraq and other victims of terror around the world then it is imperative we support those that are fighting against terrorism.

they same people that complain about high fuel costs are the same that oppose the troops in Iraq. Dont people realize that a disruption in the fuel supply will result if we leave. We are protecting the fields and pipelines now and they still get blown up if we left there would be more sabotage and we would be forced to return and have to start all over. Maybe that would be good as we didnt kill enough Iraqis during the war to make the place safe and going in we could kill a few hundred thousand more in days

During war time Americans should unite and support the effort, whether you agree or not. By talking against the war you strenghten the resolve of the enemy, which results in the death of more of our troops.
At the end of the vietnam war, one of the top N. Viet generals admitted that their side was inches away from surrender, and what made them hold out was American anti-war activism.
It fuels our enemy's motivation, and gives them strength to continue when they would otherwise give up. It inspires them, and our goody two shoes activists can't seem to understand this. It almost seems like they really want our soldiers to die, and the effort to fail.
So I ask you, who is the real ememy? It seems like many Americans are.

The answer to your basic question is, of course, no. But, the extremeist at either end of the politcal spectrum are not behaving nor speaking in a rational manner.
Some may question my use of the term, "extremist" use in this way, but I feel that people who use rhetoric as a weapon are just as guilty as those who pull the triggers of other weapons. Each feels he is contributing to his cause.
Still think I am stretching the comparison. This county has named Osama bin Laden as out number one enemy, mostly because of his involvement in the attack of September 11. Yet this man did not fly the plane. He did not hold a box cutter to anyone's neck. On the one hand, some blame him for that attack. He is cited for "starting" this War on Terror. On the other hand, some criticize our war on terror because our forces have yet find him and bring him to "justice."
Where is the rationality? It already IS the way politics is practiced in the US.

I dont think the united states has ever done anything rational politically. thats the main problem here - no common sense. Just remember the one of the oldest sayings in the book - "opinions are like a**holes, everyones got one"
no one should put down someone else for opposing views - thats why we live in america, not iraq.

I'm interested in hearing what other people have to say against the war and such, because some people may have something that enlightens me otherwise, I've stumbled across people sometimes.
But if you think we can all just hold hands and sing kumbuya(?) then I would be less inclined to have understanding. That doesn't make you a sympathizer though.

Of course it is. The fact is a lot of people disagree with the war, and not because they have sympathy for the terrorists.
Among those are former military commanders, religious figures, and common people who have learned from past mistakes.

Of course it isn't rational...it is a symptom of the kind of mass irrationality started by Ronnie Ray-gun in the 1980's with the same bunch of crooks Bush is using now..Don Dumbsfeld, Dick "The Criminal" Cheney, and the Bush Crime Family.
The kind that wants to strip you of your freedom to disagree.
