I know it means that you are doing good, but why does it mean you are doing good? What do the 5's stand for?

This is military "code" for "I read you loud and clear".

Walkie talkies (or at least good ones) have two circuits - one for sending and the other for receiving. A long time ago, a particular model of talkie had a method for determining how good the signal was for both circuits. That method went from zero to up to five, with five being a strong signal.

Here's another related point of trivia: when going to the washroom, close protection people usually tell their controller that they are going to "zero zero".

I have never heard anyone use that phrase.

All I know it was featured in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as something Faith used to say. But why, no idea.
