I have kids. 5,8 & 9. After 5 years of explaining to them why we don't have a tree. They finally have a place to put all the ornaments they have made over the past years.

Well I certainly hope that she realizes what you've all been missing. DONT go back to her methods. If she's unable to gracefully and happily accept your choice (FINALLY, what took ya so long?) Then she needs to accept some professional help.
It is definitely HER problem.

Good for you . I think that your should explain to her that this is something that is important to you and just as you have respected here for all these years your kids deserve to have the opportunity to decided andknow what it feel like to have this in there life. I think a lot of communication goes a long way so be patient and try talking about this when she sees how happy you and your kids are with this as a mother and wife she'll eventually give in. from what i can tell you seem like a good husband. i wish you good luck in this hope this answer is what you were looking for....

Is there a particular reason your wife didnt have a tree when she was growing up? Was it family issues, religious? For you I'd find out what her deal with Christmas trees are, maybe it's alot deeper than you know.

Is it a religious thing with her? What was your explanation as to why you didn't have one for 5 years?
She needs to understand that the world does not revolve around her.

you aren't stating a question here, but I think a child should know about Christmas trees and how to decorate it.

talk to her, explain that both ways of life can be celebrated. both of you need to compromise, and realize what or how the other believes.....and it can be done;
