Probably the best thing to do will be study much math, science (especially astronomy and physics), and maybe also computer programming (as this is important in simulations).

Ask yourself what you study as a cosmologist-do you want to do research on the big bang, or the formation of galaxies, ect. What interests you will point you in the correct direction. Read books to get familiar with topics but don't depend only on books, you'll need degrees, and if you are at a university talk to profs in physics and astronomy.

Speaking as an American college student, I don't know if there are any universities in the US that offer cosmology as an undergraduate degree because its is so specific and undergraduate work in the US is generally very broad. My advice if this is a situation you must contend with is to get the adequate preparation and also get involved with research in cosmology in anyway that you can, maybe there is a professor who needs a student to help out-don't expect to do many exciting things but you'll get experience and knowledge that will help you out. After this when you are working on an advanced degree and have the knowledge to do this, you'll be able to do research under the guidance of a professor.

In general, it seems like advice for graduate schooling in astronomy also applies to cosmology (as cosmology is a field within astronomy).

Good luck!

You will have to take college level physics, astronomy (astrophysics) and math. You will also have to take these subjects all the way through the PhD level, and you will have to have a natural inclination for math and concept.

Cosmology proves to be a demanding subject even for seasoned phycisists and mathematicians. It's as hard core as hard core science and math gets.

The job options are slim. You will most likely end up teaching at a university....and you will definatly have to learn to spell better or use a spell checker.
