i think if you're UNDER 17 y/o you should NOT have a boyfriend. there are so many other important things you should be focusing your life on during that time than your emotions with a boy who probably just wants to have sex.

Our parents often know what's best for us, even when it seems really wrong to us at the time.

It's hard to answer your question because I know nothing about you. But if your father is discouraging you from dating, it's possible he has a very good reason and he is simply concerned for your welfare.

I remember when I was in high school I was very much in a hurry to date. I wanted a boyfriend really bad and I was discouraged because no one seemed interested in me. It was hard because I felt like I was really in a hurry to grow up.

You can still go out and have fun without a boyfriend. In fact, it's better not to have one when you are in highschool because there are so many things to enjoy. It's better to enjoy them with a group of friends than being too concerned about some guy. That doesn't mean you can't date - just focus on going out with groups of people to movies, dances, the mall, etc. There is plenty of time to grow up and do the serious boyfriend thing after high school.

If it really bothers you, you could try talking to your dad and asking him why he doesn't think you should have a boyfriend. Tell him you want to talk about dating and when he thinks you would be old enough. It's a hard conversation to have with your dad because he's probably going to be all worried about your having sex and stuff - but if you can talk about it now it will be good for both of you.

Good luck!

It sounds like maybe you're too young. If you meet a boy you can be true freinds with, that's great, but don't waste time worrying about boys in general. Most of the ones you think are "cute" aren't worth it.

It doesnt matter what we think. If you are underage OR live in your father's house OR is supported by your father , it is what he think. Even if u are not the above, your father is older & very likely experienced & any advice he give you should be at least considered.

Respect your father. He knows what is best for you. You may not agree with him now, but years from now when you look back at this you will see he was right and will thank him for it...hopefully he'll still be around for the thanks.
