basically you can't.

any music that you download from anywhere is illegal unless you pay the artist to listen to it... limewire and imesh are both illegal if you download the music basically just to listen to it

I don't think there is a way. If it's LEGAL you MUST pay. If it's free it's ILLEGAL. That's the whole point. You can download some songs from MySpace though.

no where, songs are sold for profit to make the peoples pockets who make the song bigger, free legal downloads would be like giving a cd out for free at a music store... but you could check out aol.music you can watch listen to musci videos on there

bear share...i think i have an older version so i can get songs for free...they claim its legal so its whatever...but double check if its still free, if not, they're probably charging a few dollars a month for unlimited downloads (not more than 10 bucks)

Indie bands have lots of stuff. Lots of them give music away as incentive to buy their stuff on CD.

You can also check out the live music archive at http://www.archive.org/details/etree - currently 36,000+ live shows from hundreds of bands.

Check out http://www.SurfReportWebsite.com for some free indie surf music.

I'm not positive that it isn't illegal, but you can get music by using www.dogpile.com you just search for audio and import the files to itunes. The easiest way is using mp3 files.

emusic.com gives you 50 free downloads when you sign up, I think napster has a free, but very low quality option too.
