I wish to add that you should be a practical and tactical person so far as relationships are concerned - means a fine blend of everything. A balanced approach always pay in the long run and keeps your own credibility in a good stand. Human behaviour is always un-predictable, so stay prepared for anything anytime no matter how intimate your relations are.
Regarding elders fight with their friends, don't get worried. Make them to resolve their differences amicably and let their friendship bond go stronger. How to do all this, well no set formula, it is your wisdom on any particular situation and respective moods.
