Check out Goodwill and the thrift shops. i know there used to be one by Schnucks and another one next to Midway Party Supply (St. Charles Rock Rd. and FeeFee).

Join the Yahoo group www.freecycle.org. People give items away that they no longer want or have a use for.

There is no more thrift store by Midway Carnival :( It's a Quik Trip now. However, there is still a for-profit thrift store in Breckenridge Hills near where Schnucks used to be.
