Yes, it icontains iron thats why it is called as iron containing pigment in the blood.The word haemoglobin is made by the combination of two single words i.e. haeme+globin, where haeme is the other name of iron(ferrus ion) and globin is the name of protien.
Iron part is linked by polypeptide units.
Iron is essential for various enzymatic activities in the body
