Yes, it sounds like JTN has it right, unless the gear spun off the bottom of the distributor shaft, so the rotor doesn't turn. An engine that new would use a crankshaft position sensor to fire the coil, so the distributor would have nothing to do with that, and you'd still get spark to the distributor. Hopefully that's not what it is, but you could easily check by taking off the distributor cap and watching to see if the rotor turns when you turn the engine over. If it does, just try replacing the rotor and cap. Good luck.

Read this carefully. Try replacing distributor cap and distributor rotor. Those are the only -2- components that will not allow fire to spark plug wires and spark plugs IF you are getting fire from ignition coil to distributor cap...

Sounds like a bad distributor. Replace the rotor and cap and see what happens.

get rid of the truck! I had a 95' gmc jimmy and it was the biggest piece! It kept breaking down and then i replace the motor and it wouldn't run right, i picked it up from the shop and the guy said if i shut the truck off it wouldn't start up again, so i left it running and went to the car dealer and bought a new truck.

could be a bad dist. but probably just electrical. in the dist the coil can create spark but there are still parts it has to go through before. we used to call them condensors. I'll be damned if i know what there called now. I think it is in the electrical guts of the dist
