Major differences. Just to highlight 2 of them:

In the movie, Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) lives. In the book, he dies.

In the book, Hooper & Ellen Brody have an affair. No such thing in the movie.

The biggest difference is that you read the book but watch the film.

You can watch the film however you have to read the book, the film last a few hours and the book can take ages........lol

the film was a blockbuster and the book only became a bestseller because people that had something to do with the film bought tons of books to make it seem like a big piece of litterature (don't know about that because I haven't read it).

basically the main difference is that in the book Chief Brody's wife Ellen has an Affair with the oceanographer guy (i forget his name) and in the movie they dont.
