The Avalanche is a full-sized, crew-cab pickup with a unified bed and cab. An innovative midgate at the back of the cab can be folded down and the rear glass removed to extend the carge bed into the rear of the cabin. Along with a standard three-peice removable bed cover, this gives the Avalanche flexibility and versatility. Fussing with all the peices, however, can be tedious. Rear visibility is very poor. The 5.3 litre V8 provides impressive acceleration but is thirsty. The ride is comfortable and quiet. The four-wheel-drive system can remain enganged indefinintely, which is a plus. Reliability is average.

The Ridgeline is the top-rated pickup. It has agile handling and ride that's supple and steady, like a good sedan. It features a tailgate that opens vertically or horizontally, and beneath the bed is an all-weather lockable trunk. The standard 3.5 litre V6 engine is quiet, smooth, and responsive. The roomy crew cab is nicely detailed and easy to access. The five-foot-long cargo bed is made from a composite material and has no wheel arch intrusion. While not designed for serious off-roading, it is capable in most off-road conditions. Reliability is outstanding.

The Ridgeline has the right stuff for towing. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard equipped with a heavy-duty transmission cooler, power steering fluid-cooler, dual radiator fans and heavy-duty brakes. The rear suspension offers load carrying capacity, strength and durability characteristics that are as good or better than a sold rear axle/spring type suspension. The truck goes where you point it when towing. The closed box, ladder-style frame with unibody construction provides excellent rigidity. The frame has seven cross members with high strength steel reinforcements that create six boxed zones with the lower part of the unibody. The box is integrated as part of the total body of the truck, not as an add-on that moves seperately from the body.

Extra large brake rotors and callipers provide the capacity to stop the truck easily when towing a heavy trailer. It has more than enough power to take your 5,000-pound trailer in comfort to any destination, and delivery better fuel economy while doing so. The Class IV trailer hitch is a dealer-installed accessory and is pre-wired for after market brake controls with both four-pin and seven-pin wiring harness using Bargman connectors.

The Ridgeline will last you the longest hands down. I know some people who had the Avalanche, mainly a couple people that were my dads customers, and they didn't really like it. I believe one traded it in because it was giving him headaches every other month, and the other just thought it was uncomfortable to drive around to work all the time. I think the Ridgeline is much better, its roomy on the inside, it looks good, its a Honda so its definitely reliable, its better on gas too than the Avalanche. I know one person who has one, no complaints, except for i think one button on the dash wouldn't work, but it was repaired free under warranty.

I own a RIDGELINE and i love it!! it has adequate seating for 5, lots of cargo space (undeseat storage, bed, in-bed trunk) I havent tried towing anything yet but im sure it could easily tow a boat under 5000 lbs. SO i would say RIDGELINE ALL THE WAY!

If you were doing that kind of towing, I'd for sure say the Avelanche. Check out the brand new ones, the 2007 model. They are the best thing out there, even better than the Ridgeline.

They both are amazing vehicles... I always liked the Avalanche until Honda launched its Ridgeline... Ridgeline can be an all-rounder.. Power, performance, looks, price and reliability (which is very important). Its a difficult choice but i think i would go for the Ridgeline if i were you...
