On the surface that you have gnats, clean with a solution of bleach and water. About a cup of bleach to a gallon of water. This will take care of your gnat problem. If you want to KEEP them away, I suggest using a solution of 1/8 c of tabasco to 1 gallon water around the base of the room where they are most frequent. Take care!

Throw away the bad food, scrub the counter and the floors then light a candle. Cleaning will not give them a reason to be in your kitchen and the candle will attract them to their death.

Also, it may not be "bad" food attracting them. They like foods such as bananas and any other fruit that may be on the counter or in the kitchen outside the refrigerator.

Hang bay leaves in all of the corners of the kitchen and place them on the shelves also. Very few insects will tolerate them.
